I just installed VMware for my Windows 7 for virtualization purpose and I found out that my logon screen persisted to appear every time I restart my PC. As it is a personal home PC, so I don’t need a password for the computer to login. Here’s how I done it:
Windows Vista/7
- Click Start
- Type netplwiz in the search-box and press enter.
- Select the user you want to auto-login automatically and then uncheck the box reading “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer”.
- Enter your password when prompted leave empty if none.
- Click OK.
Windows XP
You can either download this AutoLogon from Microsoft Sysinternals or follow the steps shown next:
- Press Windows Key + R (or Goto Start-> Run).
- Type control userpasswords2 and press enter in RUN dialog box.
- Click the username you want to autologin and uncheck the box “Users must enter a username and password to use this computer”.
- Enter your password when prompted leave empty if none.
- Click OK.
There are several friends of mine already start switching to Windows 7 from their ex-Windows, and the feedback were all good. In case you do not know, Microsoft did had their Windows 7 Release Candidate (RC) available for public download and the key for it that will expired around March next year. However, they just stop distributing it few weeks back, so if you really want to try out the RC, try find it in some site (torrent or rapidshare) and get the genuine key that will last you few months here.
For several months I have been using the Microsoft Office 2010 Technical Preview, which means that I am one of the closed CTP tester for the impressive office suite. I must say I am impressed with the Technical Preview itself except several bugs in it, but what can we expect, it’s a Technical Preview. However, it is not released yet, and if not mistaken it haven’t even reach to the beta milestones, so either you downloaded and install it illegally (since it’s a closed preview) in trial mode or you can try a bit of the new software online with Microsoft Office Web Apps that can be accessed in your Windows Live account.
