I had just recently shifted to Windows Live Mail as my primary email client since I am able to check back mails even without internet connection. It works really well, and I find that the interfaces are all pretty clean, much like all other Windows Live applications. The email account setup work like a breeze; I got my Hotmail and Gmail accounts setup within few minutes and start receiving mails (of course it going to take ages to download all my emails). But just when I am happy for it, I found that I can’t send mail through my Gmail account. According to the error message, it has something to do with my smtp setting for outgoing email. As everything were setup automatically by Windows Live Mail, I do not suspect anything wrong about it.
Solution
Simple enough, what I found is that the port for outgoing email or smtp.gmail.com is not usable (failed). And the reason I know it because Gmail does have it’s own guide to setup Windows Live Mail, which can be accessed here. So, instead of the automatic port 25 given by WLM, Gmail suggest that for outgoing mail should use port 465. So, of course, my Windows Live Mail works perfectly now. If you have the same problem as mine, try it or refer to the official Gmail guide for setting up Windows Live Mail.
Thanks for solution. It is really working.
